The score at the end of the first quarter was 11-1 in favor of Wheaton South. The Warriors could not get their offense going early on, going 0-for-7 from the field, getting their lone point off a Paul Werkema (4 points) free throw. Benjamin Euler (19 points) attempted to start the fire for the Warriors in the second quarter, scoring 10 straight points. Mark Fernandes added a silky 17-footer as well. At the half, WA was down 10 points, 19-9. A third quarter surge brought hope to the prospect of a Wheaton Academy comeback. Quinn Gorski started things off with a drive to the basket and reverse layup, then Euler hit a three to make it 21-14. Jason Roy followed suit by knocking down one from behind the arc which brought the Warriors within 7 points, 24-17. The third quarter run reached its climax with Euler scoring 7 consecutive points, drawing WA to within three points, 27-24. Wheaton South had a costly second chance buzzer-beating put back at the end of the third, making it a six point game going into the fourth quarter. Uncharacteristic game-defining turnovers occured in the final eight minutes on Wheaton Academy's part. The Warriors struggled to score, tallying a season-low for points scored in a quarter with three. As a team, WA was 3-for-9 from the free throw line and committed 14 turnovers, which proved to be extremely costly in the slow paced game. The team will travel to Florida on Monday as a part of Wheaton Academy's Winterim, where they will play two games over the course of the next week.
