Trojans charge past Wheaton Academy

Posted on 01.26.08 at 1:08 AM

The setting was great for high school basketball on Friday night in Elmhurst. The gym was packed; it was Timothy's homecoming; WA had a good fan section; the players were pumped. The matchup was a key PSL contest which would determine a possible second place leader in the league as well as win home court advantage for the PSL tournament later on in the season.

The Warriors played pretty well throughout the first quarter, jumping to a 9-1 lead. That offensive productivity came to somewhat of a standstill in the second quarter. Timothy scored on a rebound and put back at the end of the half to tie it up at 19-19.

The third quarter was marked by periods of stagnet offense for Wheaton Academy. Timothy's constant changing defenses proved to be a major factor in the Trojan's victory and the Warriors' loss.

Timothy, playing some of the best basketball they have all season, continued to get some wide open to gradually extend their lead. Wheaton Academy could not stage an Orangewood Christiain type of comeback as the lead increased, and the game finally concluded with Timothy on top, giving the Warriors their fifth loss of the season.
