Statistics (PDF) Warriors end season with loss to Marshall Posted on 02.28.08 at 11:34 PM Wheaton Academy played in their first regional final game since 2003 on Thursday night against the number 1 team in the state of Illinois, Chicago Marshall after defeating Chicago Manley on Wednesday night. The Warriors jumped to an early 7-0 lead, and maintained that lead for the majority of the first half. With the exception of a spurt of turnovers which allowed Marshall to get back into the game, WA played a very solid first half, and were down by 14 points at the half. The two teams exchanged baskets to begin the third quarter. Wheaton Academy never was able to chip away at Marshall's lead, and the Commando's ran away with a large win in the final minutes. The Warriors finish the 2007-2008 season with an admirable overall record of 17-10. Marshall Wins Regional Title Chicago Sun Times, 02/29/08 Marshall coach Courtney Hargrays thanked Wheaton Academy coach Paul Ferguson after the Commando’s 89-42 victory for allowing the Class 3A regional finals to be moved up one day so the team could support the school’s girls team in their state semifinal game Friday. “I appreciated coach Ferguson’s gesture,” Hargrays said. “We are family at Marshall and we believe in supporting each other.” The Warriors scored the game’s first nine points and grabbed a 16-13 first quarter lead before Marshall (26-4) turned it around in the second quarter with a 19-2 run to turn a 20-20 tie into a 39-22 lead with 1:58 remaining in the first half. Marshall’s Ryan Hare led all scorers with 27 points. Davarius Davis added 13 points and Darius Smith added 10 points, nine steals, and seven rebounds for the Commandos. Ben Euler led the Warriors (17-9) with 16 points.
