Solid win for Warriors at Lisle

Posted on 11.27.07 at 10:47 PM

Wheaton Academy traveled to Lisle on Tuesday night for their first road game of the season, after beginning with a 3-1 performance in the Thanksgiving tournament. Sporting their brand new black uniforms, Wheaton Academy struggled in the first half to get any type of offense going for them, while allowing the Lions to have their way in the post and on the boards. Eric Albaugh (13 points) kept the Warriors in the game by getting to the free throw line off of hard drives to the basket, as well as finishing on a number of lay-ins in the midst of heavy traffic.

The second half brought a renewed focus for WA, as they applied some full court pressure which bothered Lisle and created some offensive energy for the Warriors. WA jumped to a 10+ point lead in the third quarter, which was advanced further by Benjamin Euler's (16 points) back-to-back three pointers. Paul Werkema stayed true to his consistent presence in the post and on the boards, which was a factor as well in the win.

Wheaton Academy ended up defeating Lisle by twenty, with a 54-34 final score. The win improves the team's record to 4-1 on the season. WA will begin PSL play on Saturday evening against Illiana (note the 5:30 PM start time).
