Win at Lisle Shootout

Posted on 12.08.07 at 10:53 PM

In every year that Wheaton Academy has participated in the annual Playing for Pride Lisle High School Shootout, they have won. The Warriors continued that winning trend on Saturday night against Hartsburg-Emden High School. WA entered the game with significant personnel sitting on the bench with ties. Tim Rusthoven, still awaiting medical treatment, and guard Eric Albaugh who uniquely broke his thumb on Thursday night were not in the Warriors' starting five. Albaugh will need surgery, and will be out for the rest of the season.

Wheaton Academy began the game extremely passively. Things were not going their way, as Hartsburg jumped to a 17-2 lead. The Stagg's two big men gave the Warriors signficant problems throughout the game, particularly by means of getting WA in foul trouble. Big men Cochrum, Werkema, and Ritchie all had four fouls by the end of the game.

An explosive second quarter for WA evened things up, and the Warriors entered the locker room at halftime with a four point lead, but still with much room for improvement. Quinn Gorski (17 points) had a huge game for the team both offensively and defensively. Gorski nailed down two crucial three's, in addition to getting a number of steals in the full court pressure.

WA kept a 4-8 point lead throughout the fourth quarter, and iced the cake with patient offense and made free throws. The win makes Wheaton Academy 6-1 on the season. They will face Aurora Christian next Tuesday afternoon (3pm) at the United Center in Chicago.
