15-point Conference win vs. Illiana

With cold temperatures and a snow and ice storm brewing outside, the Warriors entered into PSL conference play for the first time this season against a visiting Illiana Christian at an unusual 5:30 game time.

Wheaton Academy's Benjamin Euler (23 points) began the game by knocking down a pair of three pointers, as the Warriors looked to gain an early lead over the Vikings. Although WA seemingly dominated all aspects of the game, Illiana remained close by. The warriors led by three after the first quarter 14-11, and by three at the half, 24-21. The game certainly would have been different if the Warriors could have raised their free throw percentage (21-for-38 total) and minimized the number of Illiana offensive rebounds.

Paul Werkema (18 points) had a relentless presence underneath the basket. He completed three 3-point plays, and found himself at the free throw line 13 times for the night. Dave Toellen (11 points) scored a personal season-high by knocking down a number of jumpers in addition to grabbing 5 defensive rebounds for the Warriors.

Wheaton Academy went on a 9-0 run in the third quarter, and closed the game in the final minutes shooting free throws. The Warriors improve to 5-1 on the season, and will not play again until next Saturday night at the Lisle Shootout.
