The Wheaton Academy Warriors earned their first win of the season Friday night in a packed Warrior Dome against a well-coached Westminster Christian team. Westminster caught WA by suprise in the opening minutes, as a trapping press forced turnovers which led to baskets for the Warriors from Elgin. Westminster at one point held an 11-4 advantage in the first quarter, but 7 points scored by sharp-shooter Joel Malmquist (18 points total) brought the score to 15-11 in favor of the Warriors (WA) at the end of the first period.

Wheaton Academy started to gain some offensive momentum in the second quarter, scoring a season quarter high 28 points. Joel Malmquist connected on three shots from behind the arc while Benjamin Euler (19 points total) added 7 in the run. The Warriors closed out the half with a comfortable 41-24 lead.

A strong third quarter, fueled by senior John Albaugh (11 points) and freshmen standout Tim Rusthoven (10 points) continued Wheaton Academy's effort against the PSL member school from Elgin. Mike Lindstedt (4 points), Eric Albaugh, and Jason Roy all played meaningful minutes in the thirty point victory as well.

Wheaton Academy moves to 1-5 on the season, and 1-0 in conference play. The team will face off against Rock Ridge high school tomorrow afternoon at the LIsle High School Playing for Pride Shootout, hosted by LIsle High School at 2:00 PM.
