The Lions of Lisle High School traveled to Wheaton Academy to face the Warriors in their home-opener Tuesday night in West Chicago. The two teams battled almost evenly in the first quarter, ending the period 16-15 in favor of WA. Lisle outscored Wheaton Academy 17-10 in the second quarter, largely due to #40 Derek Leonard for Lisle, who scored 8 out of those 17 points and finished with a game-high 28 points. At the half, as a result of Warrior defensive breakdowns, Lisle held a 32-26 advantage.

The Lions continued to hold a slight three to six point lead over Wheaton Academy for the majority of the second half. John Albaugh scored all 12 of his points in the second half to keep the score close. A Benjamin Euler (20 points) three-point make tied the game up 49-49 early in the fourth quarter. Lisle regained a slight one to two point lead down the stretch, as the Warriors looked to over power the Lions on their home court.

Down 57-56, Jared Cochrum for Wheaton Academy stole the ball with 20 seconds remaining in regulation, then took a timeout with 17 seconds on the clock. Joel Malmquist (5 points) had one final look from behind the arc which hit the front of the rim and bounced out as time expired.

Wheaton Academy enters an odd period in their season, as they will not play again until December 8 at home vs. Westminster Christian, which is followed by the Lisle Shootout on that Saturday (vs. Rock Ridge). WA will then enter the heart of their season with games at Benet, Timothy, and St. Francis all in the same week.
