Warrriors fall to Stevenson in Season Opener Game #1 • Monday, November 20, 2006 • 6:00 PM • Buffalo Grove Thanksgiving Tournament The Wheaton Academy Warriors opened up the 06-07 basketball season Monday night at the Buffalo Grove Thanksgiving Tournament. New head coach Paul Ferguson's team took on the Patriots of Stevenson High School, a team who last year lost in the sectional finals to a Jon Scheyer-led Glenbrook North team. The young Warriors, who as a whole have very little varsity playing experience were put to the test early on with a full court press put on by Stevenson. Wheaton Academy, before making some adjustments, had trouble handling the press which gave Stevenson an early lead, capped off by a made jumper at the buzzer to conclude the first quarter. Stevenson gained an advantage through their physical play and offensive rebounding, while the Warriors struggled to get a rythm going offensively. At the half, Wheaton Academy trailed by 13 points. An explosive offensive third quarter for the Patriots made it hard for WA to make a comeback, and sealed the victory for them in the opening round of the tournament. Wheaton Academy will play Lakes Community High School tomorrow at 6:00 PM.
