It wasn't the Warriors' defense that got them the win over West Chicago Tuesday night. Nor was it their lack of turnovers because they had a fair share of them in the first half as well as the whole game. Wheaton Academy as a whole could have played at a higher level than they did, but they certainly were glad to come away with a win against the cross-town school in the non-conference contest.
Jeremy Parker once again went to work leading the Warriors with a game-high 26 points. Axel Cerny and Nate Williams also contributed combining for 23 points. WA jumped to a 17-9 first quarter lead which diminished a little bit in the second quarter due to unnecessary turnovers, but was ended in a 14 point advantage at the half, 34-20.
It was Wheaton Academy's offensive patience that eventually gave them victory, especially in the second half after many open layup opportunities were seized, and the defensive intensity was elevated a bit. The win moves the Warriors to 7-8 on the season. The team continues to creep back up to the .500 mark, going 7-3 after the first four games of the season. WA will play PSL-member Walther Lutheran Friday night away before traveling to Metropolis, Illinois to play in the Superman Classic (bracket) next week.
