Paducah, Kentucky—The Warriors improved to 9-9 on the season Thursday night with a 71-57 win over Hopkinsville. Wheaton Academy jumped off to a strong start thanks to John Tillery (18 points, 5 assists) who nailed a three pointer on the first play of the game. WA continued their full-court pressure which yielded a considerable amount of steals. A weakness though was the large amount of turnovers due to poor cross court passes. At the half the score stood 31-16 in favor of the white-uniformed Warriors.
Jeremy Parker (23 points) continued his consistent play leading the team in scoring for the night, cleaning up the boards. He was 10 of 11 from the field tonight. Axel Cerny (10 points, 2 assists) provided some offensive productivity and Jason VanderVeen (8 assists) time and again saw the open man for an easy two. Nate Williams (8 rebounds) proved to be an aggressor on the boards as well.
A win is a win, though it was not the most ideal win for the traveling Warriors. Wheaton Academy played well for the majority of the game and in the end was the better team. Some setbacks off the court for the team included John Albaugh still out with a hurt knee, Joel Malmquist with some sort of food poisoning (he did not play tonight), and Mike Lindstedt who dislocated his finger in the final minutes of the game, and made a trip to the hospital to try to get things straightened out.
Wheaton Academy will finish their tournament play on Saturday afternoon in a 2:30pm matinee showing against Paducah Tilghman who won in their game tonight.
