The Warriors opened up their fourth game of the season and tournament against Palatine with great intensity and defensive zeal, but struggled to get position in help with defending the post. Palatine did a respectable job of spreading their offense out, which created trouble for Wheaton Academy in the first half. The Warriors moved the ball well which produced many open layups underneath. In fact, all but one of the Warriors' first half field goals were two-point baskets. Palatine held a 37-28 lead at the half.
In the second half, the Warriors fixed any defensive trouble from the first half and went on a run which was combatted equally by Palatine to set the stage for a potential 10-point comeback victory for WA going into the fourth quarter. Wheaton Academy dissipated that lead down to four points at one point. Palatine hit their free throws in the final minutes which gave them a six, then eight point lead which the Warriors could not respond to.
Senior pointguards John Tillery (pictured below) and Jason VanderVeen led with 16 and 10 points respectively. Benjamin Euler added 11 and Jeremy Parker scored 7 points for the Warriors who finish out the St. Charles East Tournament this year on a game where good progress was made. Coach Euler's team will have the week to prepare for next Friday's matchup against PSL rival Illiana Christian at home (home-opener).
