The Andy Euler Era at Wheaton Academy will shortly draw to a close.
On Friday the Warriors’ 12-year boys basketball coach and chairman of the school’s Bible department was hired as men’s basketball coach at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga. He’ll also serve as the college’s intramural director.
At Wheaton Academy Euler had a record of 192-132 with four Private School League titles and a regional championship in 1997-98. The Warriors were 16-12 last season.
Euler does have prior college coaching experience, assisting at Pillsbury College in Minnesota and at his alma mater, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
Before arriving at Wheaton Academy, Euler was head coach at Anchorage Christian, winning an Alaska state title in 1992. Euler, who was unavailable for comment, has a career record of 258-171.
“We would love to have him continue, but I’ve been an administrator long enough to know that teachers and coaches sometimes decide to move on, and you have to accept that,” said Wheaton Academy headmaster Dr. David Roth. “I’m excited for him because I think he’ll be a good college coach.”
Roth said a Covenant connection is its president, Dr. Niel Nielson, is the father of one of Euler’s former Warriors players, Jon Nielson.
A new Wheaton Academy coach has yet to be determined.
Covenant College competes at the NAIA level. The Scots were 14-18 overall and 12-8 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. |
