"The Gun"
Dear Wheaton Academy Basketball Family,
I hope everyone is enjoying the start of summer. For a basketball player, summer is the time when they have the greatest opportunity to improve their game through hard work and repetition. Both the boys and girls basketball coaching staffs have communicated off-season goals for your son or daughter to shoot 500 shots 3 times per week. It is a true statement that players are made in the off-season. We have the opportunity to better our basketball programs this off-season and take the next step to elevate our programs another level — this can only be done by hard work, there are no shortcuts to the top. We seek to maximize your son or daughter's time in the gym.
The Wheaton Academy Booster Club intends to purchase a basketball-shooting machine called 'The Gun'. It is common in most quality high school programs and every NCAA school in the Top 25 uses it. Great news for you, the girls and boys basketball families are joining together to purchase "The Gun" to share the costs and ownership.
The Gun is pictured below and you can see how it works. The Gun rebounds the ball and passes back to a spot (or multiple spots) allowing an individual to get 500 shots in 30-40 minutes. Either one person or a group can get reps needed to improve their shot. You can shoot from one spot or many or even random spots. The Gun we intend to purchase will have a computer function that counts shots taken and shots made so one can see what percentage they are making and how many shots they took. Bottom line, this product helps you get better and maximizes your time.
The total price for the Gun is $4,700 with shipping. We already have commitments for $2,000 so we are almost half way there. I have estimated that we have about 50 families in our boys and girls programs so I am confident that we can accomplish this goal. When purchased, it is estimated that The Gun will be delivered to Wheaton Academy at the end of June and be available to be used in the main stored in the main gym or the commons. (FYI--We are installing two new glass basketball goals in the commons and getting rid of the old fan-shaped metal backboards.
You are under no obligation to participate, but we are asking that you prayerfully consider if you want to invest in the basketball programs at Wheaton Academy. If you do, please feel free to contact me or send a check payable to Wheaton Academy and put 'The Gun' in the memo section of your check.
Sincerely,
Andy Euler, Head Boys Coach
