Malmquist Advances down state in 3-point Competition

Friday, March 9, 2007

The season may have officially ended on March 26 with a loss to Wheaton Warrenville South, but Joel Malmquist wasn't quite ready to turn in his uniform and call it a high school career. The six foot senior guard advanced to Friday night's sectional final three point shooting competition with steady performances in previous qualifying rounds.

After making his way out of the regional location at Glenbard East, Malmquist hit 10 out of 15 three point shots on Tuesday night earlier this week at East Aurora to advance to Friday's sectional final to earn the chance to make his way downstate.

Malmquist, who made 57 three pointers this season, shooting 40.1% and scoring 348 points, knocked down 9 shots on Friday which was good enough for him to advance onto the next round of shooting which will take place at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois next Thursday.

Malmquist joins other former Warrior Ryan Woldman, who made it down state in 2003, Aaron Trost who made it down state twice, as well as Doug Scott, who was the 1994 IHSA Class A three point champion years ago.
