2005 Alumni Homecoming Tournament October 8, 2005 The second annual Wheaton Academy homecoming alumni basketball tournament turned out to be a great success on Saturday afternoon with over 35 former players participating. Players ranging from graduation years of 1985 to 2005 each formed teams with other players from their time period. In addition to former players, two former coaches suited up to play. Coach Paul Ferguson (assistant men's coach at Wheaton College) played and Coach Doug Scheidt (Annapolis Christian, Maryland) returned for the first time since his departure late this summer up to Maryland. Four teams were formed for the round-robin tournament. The championship game came down to a team led by Bruno Petersons ('97), Yohance Moore ('97), and Coaches Ferguson and Scheidt against a compilation of WA graduates such Jon Nielson ('01), Kevin Bishop ('01), and Noah Ritchie ('01). Bruno Petersons hit a shot with 2.5 seconds left in the game to put his team up one. Jon Nielson just narrowly missed a last-second game-winning shot attempt off the backboard and off the rim which would have given his team the victory. The event was a good time of former Warrior basketball players and families to catch up with each other and play competitively again. Pictures from the tournament will be available for viewing as soon as they are available. Check this page again in a few weeks for the additions.
