The first annual homecoming alumni basketball tournament brought many former Wheaton Academy players together Friday night. Ranging from late 1960s graduates to 2004 graduates, a total of 38 players showed up to play in a six-game mini-tournament.
Among the alumni, were Wheaton College players Jon Nielson, Kevin Bishop, and Jim Fortosis. Bruno Petersons, who plays for the Latvian National Team also played. There were players from the 94-97 era such as Bob Remes, Chris Adams, and Ben Johnson, in addition to nearly 10 others who graduated within the last five years.
The "championship game" ended up in three one-minute overtimes, after Taylor Comstock tied the game up with a three point bank shot well beyond the line in regulation.
In previous years, there has always been a "Homecoming game", but usually only 7-10 people would attend. This year started something new - a Homecoming Tournament, and it will continue in the years ahead.
