General Information About Wheaton Academy 2007-2008 Season Freshmen History Season-by-Season 2004-05 Season Other |
Day #1 See pictures from Monday. The team left from Midway aiport at 10:20 AM this morning on Southwest Airlines. Two hours later, they arrived in Orlando, Florida. After claiming luggage and waiting to get some rental cars (three stylish minivans), the team fearlessly began their expedition on the Florida roads and highways naturally led by head of logistics, Mr. Bruce Jones. Fifteen minutes and two killer Florida Turnpike tolls later, a Chick-fil-a was spotted, and a stop was made. Following lunch, the caravan set its sights on finding the reserved lodging for the week, the luxurious Sheritan resort, a top notch vacationing resort--a real blessing to be able to be at (thanks to the Streets family!). After an hour or so of exploring the large pool area and other attractions, the team headed over to a local gym facility for a two hour practice. Following practice, the team convened at the local Cici's pizza for a late night dinner before returning to the resort for some more hot tub time before calling it a night and going to bed. Wheaton Academy will play the first of their two games in Florida tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon at 3:00 PM at Orangewood Christian High School.
Day #2 9:21 AM -- (Some) of the team woke to mild Florida weather: party cloudy, sunny, with a temperature of 49 (high expected today of 63). The team will meet for their book study later on this morning, then leave for lunch and the Orangewood game at 3:00 PM. After the game, they will attend the Orlando Magic/Bulls game along with the Orangewood team. 12:46 AM -- WA barely pulled out a win against Orangewood Christian this afternoon, after being 16 points behind. A 30-5 run in the 4th quarter got the job done though. Afterwards, they went to the Chicago Bulls / Orlando Magic game, in which the Magic soundly defeated the Bulls. After a stop at Walgreens, they returned back to the resort where they hung out and, naturally, spent some quality time in the hot tub before going to bed.
Day #3 11:34 PM -- After having our book study for the day in the morning, the team ate lunch at Panera, then headed over to nearby Sea World in hopes of seeing the Shamu show. To their disappointment, the 1:30 show was filled to capactiy. The stunning dolphin show served as a suitable alternative for the day though (they'll return tomorrow to see Shamu). The team spent the rest of the afternoon exploring SeaWorld. They returned to the hotel for awhile before heading out to a friend of Coach Ferguson's for dinner. After dinner, they went over to the Rollins College (NCAA Division II, #4 in the country) basketball game, then returned back to the hotel. (Below: Picture with the cheerleaders: annual tradition).
Day #4 See pictures from Thursday/Friday. The team met with the author of Man in the Mirror and The Young Man in the Mirror Patricky Morley early this morning to discuss his bok that the team is reading. Afterwards, they headed down the street to Subway and then back to SeaWorld. The debate rages as to whether the Shamu "Believe" show or the team's 57-46 win against Master's Academy was the highlight of the day, although the two combined proved to be form a memorable time in Florida. The Warriors returned to the hotel around 4pm, and then watched some game film before eating some Thai food and then traveling over to Oviedo for the 7:30 PM game. After the win, the team had to stop by Chick-fil-a once again, before returning back to the hotel to enjoy some pool/hot tub time. Day #5 See pictures from Thursday/Friday. The team had a full, fun, and exciting day today. After meeting as a group in the morning for some words of wisdom from Coach Ferguson, they took the 2 hour drive up to Gainesville to visit the University of Florida. While there, they ate at the student center, went on a tour of some of the campus, the football stadium, basketball arena, et cetera (see pictures), and then went to find the Gators' basketball practice facility at 6pm. They arrived in the aesthetically pleasing stand-alone building--the home to both the men's and women's Florida basketball teams just as the Gators were ending practice. The team walked onto the practice court with the Florida players lingering--some still shooting, and head coach Billy Donovan on the other end of the court earnestly preparing for tomorrow night's game against Kentucky. Assistant Coach Larry Shyatt took the team into the Gator's film room and talked to them for about 15 minutes, offering and interesting inside look into division basketball at Florida. Afterwards, the team practiced for two hours on the in the facilities, and then took a look at the rest of the complex, before leaving for a local Chipolte, then making the drive back to the hotel. The team will fly back to Chicago on Saturday morning.
