12/22/05 - A 16-0 third quarter Timothy run defeated the Warriors by 12 points on Wednesday.

12/21/05 - The sophomores opened up their Westmont Christmas Tournament play with a 42-31 win over Lisle Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors jumped to an early 13-4 lead, but turnovers and a poor offensive second quarter made room for LIsle to even things up. WA came back strong in the second half, using their size-advantage over Lisle and came away comfortably with the victory. The team plays tomorrow at 11:30 AM against the winner of the Kaneland/Timothy game.

11/26/05 - Wheaton Academy suffered its second loss of the season to a strong St. Francis team Saturday night in a game that would give second place rights to the winner. WA was in a 14 point hole at the half, but the team battled back to tie the game with under two minutes to play. Both teams exchanged baskets, but St. Francis managed to go up by two with 30 seconds left to play. After a timeout, WA deflected the first play out of bounds and got a steal on the second play. Following two more fouls by St. Francis, WA had the ball under the basket with under 3 seconds to play. Paul Werkema got the ball off a stack and missed the shot. Jared Cochrum managed a tip out of the play, but missed that shot as well. All in all, Coach Hockett was very pleased with his teams effort."Our team has heart and hustle. We don't die. These guys gave it all on the floor. Some of these shots will start to
fall soon." Paul Werkema (21 pts) scored half of the team's 42 points acting both as a point-guard and a post player at times. Sophomore guard Mike Krawec came up big for the Warriors as well contributing 13 points. "This was a team effort however, and each guy on this team makes us better.".

11/25/05 - Coach Matt Hockett and his team got their first win of the season Friday night against St. Edwards 56-51 in the second game of the Wheaton Academy Invite. The team was led in scoring by the inside presence of Paul Werkema (14 pts) and Jared Cochrum (18 pts). Middle relief was led by Mike
Krawec and Brooks VanderVeen (both with 9 pts.). Pressure created by the Warriors created a lot of turnovers for the Green Wave and WA's offensive rebounding put St. Edwards in a serious bind. Coach Hockett was happy with the effort and tenacity of his players. "Our team has consistently displayed heart and hustle. This was such a positive step for us." The Warriors will play St. Francis at 4:00pm tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 26th).

Tournament Note: The sophomore boys tournament champion could be either WA, Aurora Christian, or St. Francis.  If AC loses in the morning, then the winner of the afternoon game would both be 2-1 and a points allowed tiebreaker would decide the winner. If AC wins in the morning, then they are the champion.

11/23/05 - The sophomore team lost to Aurora Christian in a close game by the score of 33-32 in the WA Thanksgiving Invite. By the numbers, Paul Werkema led the team with 11 points despite foul trouble, shooting 5 of 8 from the free throw line. Jared Cochrum added 8 points, making good on four field goals for the night. The team was a dominating presence in the post with Jared Cochrum, Paul Werkema, and Karl Ellis, and held the Eagles to only 13 second-half points. Brooks VanderVeen, Mike Puccinelli, and BB Taylor all gave good minutes on the floor. BB Taylor returned to play in the second half after breaking his nose earlier in the game. With two minutes left in the game, WA found themselves down 4 points. They went on to reel off six straight points, only to give up a three pointer with 20 seconds left in the game. In the final 16 seconds, "We ran a play and got the shot we wanted. We just didn't convert on the layup," Coach Hockett said. "It was a good battle, and if we are going to lose, I can't think of a better team to lose against. Aurora played with class and Christian attitude."
