Wheaton Academy came onto the floor Wednesday afternoon a new team, after falling to Bolingbrook, and totally disfunctioning against Nicolet. The Warriors' concentrated effort on defense backed their offensive energy, and WA took control of the game from the start. Wheaton Academy virtually cut out all hints of penetrations from Prosser, an athletically gifted Chicago Public League team.
Jeremy Parker who started tonight, was the key player offensively by draining 6 three-pointers and totalling 18 points. Wheaton Academy led by four points at the half. The game stayed even throughout the third quarter, though Prosser outscored WA 21-13.
Wheaton Academy kept a small lead until roughly two minutes remaining when the opposition gained a two-point advantage. Prosser was up 3 with under a minute left to go, and WA had many good looks to tie the game or take the lead, but failed to do so.
WA played hard and well throughout the game, but unfortunately could not finish tonight. Axel Cerny scored 14 points, shooting 3-7 from three-point land, and Jason VanderVeen had 7 assists. Wheaton Academy plays their final tournament game tomorrow at 3 PM against the winner of the Oswego/Ottawa game.
